Frequently Asked Questions…
We are here to give you the most amount of information regarding dental implants so that you can make your choice easier!
Does having dental implants hurt?
During the procedure itself, you will not feel a thing as our clinicians will make you completely numb.
Like with any procedure there will be some discomfort post-op, this is manageable with paracetamol and ibuprofen and usually lasts for 3-5 days.
I am petrified by the dentist; can you help me?
We most certainly can, our clinic is like no other. You will arrive as a stranger and leave as a friend. Our team is dedicated to making your transformation as comfortable as possible.
As we have a small, handpicked team you will see the same faces every time that you come to visit us. Our team are experts in working with nervous patients and we understand that this is a daunting experience so will work at your pace to make you feel comfortable.
How long will the surgery take?
Full mouth implant treatment will take around 3 hours, and a single jaw surgery will take around 1.5 hours.
How long does it take for dental implants to heal?
All our patients leave our clinic with temporary teeth and are advised to eat a soft food diet. After 7 weeks you will be fitted with your final teeth where you are able to eat normally again.
How long do dental implants last?
Nothing in life lasts forever, however with good home care and regular dental and hygienist appointments, you will get many years’ function from your new teeth.
How can dental implants be placed at the same time as removing teeth?
In most cases, the best time to place implants is when we are removing teeth, as you are using the same healing process after tooth removal to integrate bone around the implants.
Do you treat your new teeth the same as your natural teeth?
Your new dental implants are not ‘Fit and Forget’ – they need the same care and attention as natural teeth.
After your final appointment regular 12 monthly dental check-ups are required to monitor the condition of your dental implants. You should also maintain regular hygiene appointments, as a build-up of plaque will cause gum problems and possible bone loss from around your implants if they are not well looked after.
Do your teeth feel like natural teeth?
All our teeth are made in our dental laboratory, as your body adjusts to your teeth they will feel like the closest thing to natural teeth that can be manmade.
What is a better choice – Dental implants or dentures?
To answer this question we have composed an in-depth blog covering dental implants vs dentures.
What is going to be the strangest thing about getting implants?
You will need to get used to your new teeth. This includes learning how to eat normally again (especially if you have had teeth missing prior to your procedure), how to speak and even how to smile. Don’t worry though, you will have it figured out in a couple of days!
Can I have dental implants if I have gum disease?

Are dental implants ok for seniors?
Yes! We do not have an age restriction on dental implants and dental implants for seniors is better than false teeth as if a medical issue developed such as dementia a patient would not forget to put their teeth in and also removes the possibility of a patient choking. For more information check out our blog on implants for senior citizens.
Can my implants fail?
Sadly yes they can. This is something that can happen with any procedure from a knee operation to an ear-piercing. Putting a foreign object into your body can be rejected by your natural defence to get rid of something.
What happens if my implants fail?
If an implant fails we will get you into the clinic straight away where you will be assessed by one of our clinicians. They will either – remove your implant and wait for the jaw to heal again before placing another one OR switch the implant straight away for another one.
You will not be charged any further money for a failed implant.
How do I know if my implants are failing?
Discomfort or pain.
Visible bone loss.
Bleeding around the implant site.
Implant wobbling when touched.
My dentist has said that I do not have enough jawbone for dental implants, is there no hope for me?
A lot of dentists tell their patients that they do not have enough jaw bone for dental implants but they are wrong. Normal dentists don’t work with dental implants day in and day out like we do they are not aware of treatments that can be carried out. We specialise in working with dental implants and our clinicians have found ways of placing implants in even the most complex of cases. The only way that this can be determined is if you book a consultation where digital scans will be taken, and our clinicians will be able to assess your case. If you have been told by your dentist you can’t have dental implants because of your jaw bone density don’t listen! Come see us, we know dental implants and we can help you!
Do I have to be awake for the procedure?
No, you do not! We also have the option for patients to be asleep during the procedure at no additional cost!
